Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS BOULDERING?
Bouldering is a fast-growing and social style of rock climbing. Climbers do not use ropes or harnesses, but scale shorter walls and are protected by a thick, padded floor. There is no equipment required to start bouldering, making it fast and easy to learn and enjoy. It is challenging and gymnastic, it builds strength and confidence, and is lots of fun!
WHO IS IT FOR?
Everyone can boulder, either alone or with friends. Just drop by and we will get you started right away.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
You only need comfortable clothing and sporty shoes. We recommend the use of climbing shoes and they are for rent at the front desk if you want to try them (sizes US5 to US14 available).
HOW WILL I KNOW WHAT TO DO?
We can explain it to you in 30 seconds when you arrive. It's that simple!
IS IT SAFE?
Bouldering is the safest form of indoor climbing. The maximum height of the walls is 'only' 4.5m and the floor is covered with large thick soft mats.
WHAT FACILITIES DO YOU HAVE?
Showers, toilets, change rooms, lockers, filtered tap water, wifi, nail clippers, training area. All these are available free of charge
WHAT DOES YOUR CAFE SELL?
We provide all coffees from espresso through to latte, and various teas, using only full cream, organic skim milk or BonSoy soy milk. Food available includes ClifBars and bananas. Fully stocked drinks fridge includes 4 flavours of Powerade and various other cold drinks.
DO I NEED A CLIMBING PARTNER?
No, you can climb on your own if you like. But beware, bouldering is a very social activity – you will meet people!
DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO BELAY?
No, there are no ropes in bouldering and no need for a belayer, so you can get started right away!
ISN'T BOULDERING ONLY FOR EXPERT CLIMBERS?
Not at all! Bouldering is for everyone. We have a wide variety of fun and easy climbs that have been made especially for beginners. You will need several visits before you have tried them all!
IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT?
No, all ages are welcome, but it is probably most enjoyable for ages 10 and up. Climbers up to the age of 16 yr require minimal 1 adult supervising for every 2 children (does not apply to experienced youth climbers).
CAN WE HAVE A BIRTHDAY PARTY?
Yes, you can throw your own (small) party at 9 degrees, but we do not offer organised Birthday parties and we don't have a designated party room. Children who climb need to fill out our waiver (must be signed by parent or legal guardian) and pay entry. Supervising parents do not pay entry. Although no formal booking is required, we would appreciate it if you contact us to let us know what day you are planning to have a party and how many will be attending as this helps us prepare for your arrival. The best times for a party at 9 degrees are Mon/Tue/Wed/Fri before 5pm and Sat/Sun before noon.
CAN I BRING A PRAM?
Yes, we have plenty of space to accommodate a pram near the climbing mats for you to climb while the little one is resting.
ARE THE CLIMBS ALWAYS THE SAME?
No, to keep things fresh we change a whole colour of climbs every week so there is always something new to explore!
I AM AFRAID OF HEIGHTS - IS THIS A PROBLEM?
Not at all. You can always choose how high you go, and how you want to get down! Our specially designed beginner climbs dont go all the way up and will help to keep you learning and exploring safely!
CAN I BRING IN A GROUP?
Yes, groups are welcome at any time without pre-booking. Any group of 9 or more climbers will get 9% off the entry price when paid together. For groups larger than 15 we recommend trying to schedule your visit on Wed/Thurs/Fri before 5pm or Sat/Sun before noon.
HAVE YOU FOUND MY BOTTLE/CHALKBAG/SHOES/KEYS?
We have a large collection of lost and found items and rest assured we never throw anything out that is left behind. We'll keep whatever you have left behind until you come in again. Just ask staff at the front desk for your item.
CAN I BRING A LASER POINTER TO POINT OUT HOLDS?
No, because often these lasers do not comply with Australian safety regulations.
